Virtual photon bremsstrahlung in a magnetized quark-gluon plasma
Low-mass dileptons from a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) are dominated by virtual photon bremsstrahlung. In this process, a quark scatters many times while the photon is still forming. The resulting destructive interference, known as the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal (LPM) effect, strongly suppresses the emission rate. In this talk I extend the semiclassical LPM framework to a hot QGP in a background magnetic field, and I also include Fermi-Dirac quark statistics. I will show that the field-induced off-equilibrium correction to the quark distribution vanishes identically from the dilepton invariant-mass spectrum. The leading magnetic-field effect therefore enters only through equilibrium properties of the medium: the Landau-quantized density and Debye screening mass. These modify the LPM suppression parameter and leave a nonzero imprint on the dilepton spectrum.
