Is there a New State of Matter between the Hadron Gas and the Quark Gluon Plasma at finite T?
I discuss recent work which suggests that there is a new phase of QCD matter which we call Quark Spaghetti with Glueballs, or SQGB. This phase has chiral symmetry, but it is confined, although, like in Quarkyonic Matter, the quarks give a contribution to thermal quantities of order the number of colors, N_c, and therefore act in many ways like de-confined quarks. The Hadron Gas phase is described by a Hadron resonance gas plus Goldstone Bosons, and has a Hagedorn temperature as predicted by string theory of order 285 MeV, which is the deconfinement temperature of the pure gluon theory. Glueballs are so massive that they make only a tiny contribution to the thermodynamics of the SQGB.
